I used to have this on hand for quick flavouring of baby food. However, the preparation can be quite a bit of work and this soon lose favour with me. You can use this in place of ikan bilis stock cube – those are full of artificial stuff. You can even use it for normal cook, not just baby food.
1. Buy cleaned out ikan bilis from dried good store or supermarket. Get those without guts or heads to save yourself the trouble of cleaning them.
2. Wash the excess salt away, and then sun them dry.
3. Toast in oven until they are dry and crispy. Lightly browned.
4. Put the toasted ikan bilis through food process to grind into powder.
